For iOS Developers, it can be a mystery as to why an app submitted to Apple’s App Store is rejected. It can also be disheartening to have worked so hard on a project only to have it not meet App Store standards, meaning more time will have to be spent fixing issues you thought were already resolved. Not knowing what these issues might be ahead of time, outside of past rejection situations, makes launching your app or project difficult to plan for.
Recently, Apple published a new page on the Apple Developer website that lists not only a link to the guidelines used to review iOS and Mac apps submitted to the App Store, it also details a list of the Top 10 reasons for app rejections during a one week period.
While certain rejection reasons are incredibly vague, most items are good guidelines to both build and support an App Store ready app right from the beginning. It is interesting to see that 60% of all app rejection reasons emanate from a simple list of 10 items. And of those, many are easy fixes that follow good coding practices and guidelines. Apple also outlines what it considers ‘substandard user interface’ that adds a baseline for user interface and design development. This is a great help to anyone to ensure their code fits into the iOS 7+ guidelines. This will continue to be more important as we get closer to an iOS 8 release in the coming weeks.
