Wheeler Mission Ministries is a nonprofit Christian organization located in Indiana. Their mission is guided by fundamental faith-based doctrines and their daily efforts show devotion to helping the men, women, and children they serve. Dedicated staff and volunteers provide Christ-centered programs and services to help the homeless and those in need. They have established homeless shelters in Indianapolis and Bloomington, Indiana and go so far as to provide emergency, addiction recovery, and residential programs for both men and women who strive to turn their lives around.
Wheeler Mission teamed up with Connect Think to execute development of nonprofit event websites, to convey their message, services, and the volunteer opportunities they provide in a clear, concise, and aesthetically pleasing manner.
The goals of the event websites were to promote community involvement by:
- Communicating the organization’s message
- Driving community involvement in events
- Allowing for online donation with secure donation platforms
- Efficient online event registration
- Clear direction to volunteer and sponsorship opportunities
- Publishing success stories
- Consistent communication with participants and volunteers throughout event duration
Website visitors needed to understand the professional nature of the mission while also feeling comfortable in a charitable online environment. Keeping the organization’s goals in mind, Connect Think and Wheeler Mission worked together to tackle each objective in the most efficient and effective way possible.
Gaining an accurate perspective from our clients’ point of view is a valuable part of our discovery process. It allows our team to create better, accurately targeted custom tech solutions. Prior to the development process, Connect Think worked closely with Wheeler Mission staff to understand their organizational goals. Throughout the discovery process, our project managers collaborated to determine details of the challenges they were facing and they wanted to accomplish moving forward.
Wheeler Mission recognized the need for additional websites catering specifically to their community events. While emphasizing their objectives and mission as a nonprofit organization, the separate websites needed to grab and hold the
attention of an active audience. In contrast to their website’s “grunge” look, Wheeler Mission opted for bright, attention-grabbing colors, inclusion of event-specific photography, and call to action buttons.
Drumstickdash.org and strengthinourstreets.com are websites that contain a wide variety of useful, event-specific content. Along with suitable designs, the websites were created to flow seamlessly for simple user interaction.
To ensure Wheeler Mission staff could easily implement the desired features and functionality, Connect Think implemented WordPress, an efficient content management system (CMS) for each event site. The
new WordPress websites allow staff administrators to add and edit custom media and other website content quickly and easily.
Additionally, with the use of WordPress plugins and theme customization, Connect Think provided automatic updating for social media feeds, event countdown clocks, volunteer and sponsor signup, as well as participant registration opportunities.
The Wheeler Mission websites were created with mobile donation, registration, and support updates in mind. Today, everyone is on the go. Making charitable donations and volunteering are important to a high-functioning community. Wheeler Mission understood early on that their supporters are busy. And to that end, Connect Think worked to ensure that each new website was responsive, optimized for viewing maps, making donations, and volunteer signup across multiple mobile devices.
Donation & Sponsorship
Assistance provided by donors and fundraising events is essential to the efforts of Wheeler Mission. Ensuring volunteer signup and online donations were simple and inviting, Connect Think implemented a secure and easy-to-use payment system and signup forms.
It is important for nonprofits to clearly express their organizational intentions, display community involvement, and provide information about donation processes. After addressing Wheeler Mission’s objectives and working together to create a valid website concepts, Connect Think executed a customized plan for strategic development.
While the new websites have made it easier for Wheeler Mission staff to alter event-specific content, providing an updated look and feel, and additional feature and functionality integrations, it also provided the nonprofit with an appealing space to tell their own story, attract necessary attention, showcase their capabilities, and provide a vision for future expansion throughout Indiana.
